the falkland islands (islas malvinas in spanish) are "british overseas territories" since 1833. they are claimed by argentina for a long time, yet to no avail. falkland has about 3000 citizens, of which around 2/3 have british background. the capital is stanley, which has 2200 residents. it is also the prime harbour. stanley appears to be quite urban. its churches, as well as shops and private residences, mostly have english character.
