ADVENT EGYPT

egypt was the homeland of the first 'high culture', which began at about 3000 b.c. and lasted until 30 b.c. when the roman empire annexed egypt. the remains of the egypt realm are immense, from alexandria in the north to aswan in the south, and above all in "the valley of the kings" - - yet the most prominent ones are the pyramids. they were built in the area of giza, south-west of modern cairo.

Egypt Pyramids and Camels

climbing one of them in 1974, my first egypt voyage, together with a requested guide, was indeed very exciting.

this trip, and a further voyage in 1979, made it possible to visit many famous venues, namely places around cairo, luxor~theben and aswan.

theben was the capital city of antique egypt for about thousand years, and the amount of temple ruins is immense, as well as the colorful paintings in countless cemetery caves.

my last tour, in 2006, was to alexandria, founded in 332 b.c. by alexander the great. it soon became egypt's captial, until the muslim conquest of egypt in 641 a.d., and is its main harbour until today.
