ROME - HADRIAN'S PALACE

many roman emperors built enormous palaces (most of which have long disappeared) ... for me, the most impressive one is hadrian's (117-138) splendid summer palace east of rome (near today's tivoli), largely designed by himself. it shows the great use of 'waterscapes' - even the ruins convey their former beauty.
