BUENOS AIRES CENTER - INTRODUCTION

the city of buenos aires is the capital and largest city of argentina, located at the estuary rio de la plata (see map below). together with its surrounding suburbs, the population is 14 million. it is the most visited city in south america. buenos aires is a multicultural city.

argentina was several times reached by spanish excursions to south america, and as part of that buenos aires was founded in 1536.

In the following a "mini-preview" is presented, showing a few main buildings.

these are: the palace "casa rosada", now place of the local government, the first church of b.a. and the huge metropolitan cathedral; and the famous opera theater "colon".

Grand Boulevard

nowadays buenos aires is dominated by countless skyscrapers - yet the most prominent 'building' is the obelisk, erected in 1936. it is rated as symbolic for this grand city.
