TANGO MUSIC AND DANCE

regarding tango, there is a special essay about the history and the nature of tango in a different folder, "brave booklets about music matters", dated 2015. in the following, a mini extract is presented.

music is a very big thing in argentina - above all, the "tango", which is both, a music style and a dance style. it was invented around 1900 in a suburb of buenos aires, la boca, which was at that time its main harbour. it began in pubs and brothels.

yet soon it became more, and now tango is a crucial element of the national image of argentina. more pictures about tango can be seen in the picture gallery "la boca" on the "rohrmannspace" website.

La Boca tango

both the music and the dance are truly overwhelming - and to appreciate the incredible proficiency of the dancers one has to see them!

tango dancing is very tightly connected to the music, and it requires considerable skills, both physically and cognitively. it's usually danced by highly trained couples, steered by life music, includes stunning moves, especially by the woman, and is finely linked to what the musicians are playing. here are three great examples.

how tango is danced often looks quite dramatic!
